Alcatraz Canoe Journey

Art Direction - Illustration - Lettering - Production

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, (October 14, 2019) traditional tribal canoes representing communities from up and down the West Coast and beyond, took to the waters of San Francisco Bay and circled Alcatraz Island to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 occupation, carrying forward the legacy of the Occupation in an era of climate crisis.

“Alcatraz Canoe Journey honors the 50th anniversary of the Occupation of Alcatraz and will make plain to the residents of San Francisco that we are still here, and these lands and waters must be preserved and protected for future generations.” - Jonathan Cordero, Chairperson of the Ramaytush Ohlone

The tribal committee came to me in need of a commemorative poster with a 1960’s Filmore poster feel, promotional postcard, and social media promo animation. It was my honor and a joy to work with them. To learn more please visit canoejourney2019.com
